UAE, 28 April 2011 - Leading education, employment and technology experts from across the globe are heading to Dubai next week for top level discussions on vocational training as part of the fourth edition of Global Education Forum (GEF) and Global Educational Supplies and Solutions (GESS).
The two-part round table discussion, which takes place on Tuesday 3rd May and Thursday 5th May, will be moderated by internationally renowned Dominic Savage OBE, Director General at British Education Suppliers Association, and Matthew Anderson, Executive Director at TVET UK, respectively, and will take an in-depth look at vocational training and the vital role it plays in creating employment opportunities for nationals in the GCC.
In addition to the roundtable discussion, visitors to GESS can also visit the TVET pavilion which features leading educational institutions: Barnfield Federation, HME Technologies, Harrow College, Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, SSAT and Technology Supplies.
F&E Conference Director Rhona Greenhill confirmed the participation of leading experts on vocational education who will be attending the round-table discussion. "Vocational education is currently a subject of debate and discussion among education experts. Its inclusion in this year's forum will help clarify the issue and help enlighten all the stakeholders involved in educating our youth about the benefits of vocational training and its ability to engage young people in a meaningful and productive way by providing the skills they need to either be gainfully employed or embark on a business of their own."
The high-caliber panel will see leading educationalists from the region - including the likes of Naji Al Mahdi, Executive Director of the National Institute of Vocational Education - join in lively debate by industry opinion-formers from across the world, as they exchange ideas and experiences of best-practice in an effort to improve the provision of vocational training within the region.
Dr. Naji Al Mahdi, Executive Director of the National Institute for Vocational Education, talks about the importance of clearing up any misconceptions about vocational training. He said: "In an environment where vocational training is misconstrued as a means to benefit school drop outs, the forthcoming discussions at GESS will help correct this misconception and serve to engender a better understanding of vocational training as career-related education as well as an appreciation for the value of such education, which can deliver a variety of educational, social and economic benefits."
Meanwhile, Melanie Relton, Regional Vocational Education Manager, British Council ME, is looking forward to the discussions which she believes can help forge a better partnership with the business and education sectors. "This year's forum on vocational education will be attended by leading experts on the subject from around the world, so we can expect valuable insights on how vocational education can benefit young people and how a better link can be forged between education and industry to ensure that the skills being developed amongst young people are the ones sought out by the industry. We also hope to share some of the insights we have gained based on the work that we have done on developing vocational educational programmes in partnership with educators around the region," she explained.
GEF 2011 will run from 3-5 May 2011 in conjunction with GESS at the Airport Expo Centre, Dubai.
