Beirut, Manama, 31 January 2011 (UN Information Service) - The UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport in the Kingdom of Bahrain, is holding an expert group meeting on "Financing the Infrastructure of Transport, and Road Safety in the ESCWA Region," from 1 to 3 February in the Diplomat Radisson Blue Hotel, Manama.
The meeting opens at 9:00 AM on 1st of February with two statements for representatives of ESCWA and Bahrain's Ministry of Transport. The aim of the meeting is to inform member countries of what has been, and is currently being, implemented in transport infrastructure projects for partnerships with the public and private financial sector in developed countries and ESCWA member countries. It will therefore seek to encourage financial institutions and development funds to finance and invest in transport infrastructure projects.
Participants in the meeting include specialists in the fields of banking, road transport, road safety, and public works. They will discuss the necessary steps in the next 10 years to improve road traffic safety and to implement the 2009 Moscow Declaration as well as the most suitable action plans to achieve road safety in the region.
