China Mobile aims to increase user satisfaction with large capacity cards

BEIJING - Axalto, a Schlumberger company, today announced the successful delivery of China's first Simera (Java) 128K SIM cards. Shanxi Mobile has been appointed by China Mobile to be the first mobile carrier in China to commercially deploy Simera 128K cards provided by Axalto. With the implementation of the Simera 128K cards, Shanxi Mobile's subscribers will be introduced to a myriad of unique and cutting-edge services.

"The large-capacity Simera card with advanced applications will allow a more enriching user experience. The ability to offer diversified services to meet the needs of different customers is consistent with our branding strategy to position us as a premium carrier, and open new opportunities for business development," said Li Zhen Bo, Marketing General Manager, Shanxi Mobile. "Axalto's Simera 128K card realizes the possibility of providing just one card with an integrated SIM-based application package. With this card, a large suite of value added services will be at the disposal of our users."

Based on Java technology that is renowned for its open programming standards, this interoperable SIM card is designed to support advanced applications such as SuperPhonebook, SuperSMS, personal information management, games and information subscription. As well, the OTA Menu Update function allows users to choose their favorite combination of applications, customize and upgrade easily to new services using the same card. In particular, the Simera 128K card meets the increasing demand for SMS and other Value Added Services in the China market, as it can store more than one hundred short messages and thousands of phone numbers, and allow users to backup phonebook entries.

"In fact, the Simera 128K card development work was carried out and completed in the Axalto China's R&D centre. By introducing a leading product such as the Simera 128K card to China, it once again proves our confidence in and our commitment to the China market," said Tan Teck Lee, President, Axalto Asia. "The Simera 128K card is well positioned to help operators attract more subscribers through offering of next generation services, at a fast pace, with outstanding value. As such, users' loyalty is heightened, which in turn helps to build up and strengthen the image for operators."

The growth in demand for Axalto Simera 128K card since its launch late last year underscores the increasing trend among operators to deploy a wider range of services to their subscribers, and a heightened focus on enhancing customer satisfaction and loyalty.
