- Aster Volunteers plan to launch another 5 new mobile medical units over the next one year.
Dubai: Aster Volunteers Mobile Medical Services flagged off its 14th mobile medical services from Aster Hospital in Al Qusais, in the presence of Ms. Alisha Moopen, Deputy Managing Director of Aster DM Healthcare; HE Dr. Aman Puri, Honourable Consul General of India to the UAE; HE Mr. Ghanim Ahmed Yahia, Acting Consul General of the Republic of the Sudan to Dubai and northern Emirates; HE Khalifa Hassan Abdul Karim Al Darrai, Executive Director, Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services (DCAS) - Govt. Of Dubai; Dr. Sherbaz Bichu, CEO of Aster Hospitals and Clinics UAE; officials from Big Heart Foundation, delegates from Aster and other guests. In partnership with Big Heart Foundation, the new Aster Volunteers Mobile Medical Service vehicle will enable people in need in Sudan access primary healthcare services.
While attending the event, HE Dr. Aman Puri, Honourable Consul General of India to the UAE said, “Unavailability of access to proper healthcare facilities is a challenge that afflicts many countries worldwide and we are glad to see that Aster through its CSR programme Aster Volunteers is being to deliver such meaningful impact in areas where people need it the most.”
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Azad Moopen, Founder Chairman and Managing Director of Aster DM Healthcare said, “One of the missions of Aster Volunteers is to reach the doorsteps of people in need of medical services but do not have the resources. The Mobile Medical Services shall provide access to primary medical care to such marginalized population of Sudan. Many countries in Africa including Sudan requires such support and this is our second Aster Mobile Medical Service initiative in the continent after the first introduction in Ethiopia. We are extremely thankful to Ministry of Health in Sudan and Big Heart Foundation for partnering with us on this shared mission.”
HE Mr. Ghanim Ahmed Yahia, Acting Consul General of the Republic of the Sudan to Dubai and northern Emirates said, “We are delighted with the support extended to Sudan which would help many people access the basic healthcare facilities. We are thankful to Aster Volunteers for selecting Sudan as one of the countries for furthering its global mission to make healthcare accessible to all, and we are looking for more cooperation between Aster and Sudan."
Aster Volunteers Mobile Medical Services was launched in 2012 as a part of Aster DM Healthcare’s commitment to give back to the community to provide quality healthcare services to people living in areas where medical facilities are inadequate or inaccessible. Currently, the 13th Aster Volunteers Mobile Medical Services have their footprints in countries like India, UAE, Philippines, Oman and Ethiopia. Till date, Aster Volunteers have impacted more than 2 million+ lives and have 27,000 associated volunteers who run various initiatives under the programme.

Aster Volunteers programme, the global corporate social responsibility initiative of Aster DM Healthcare, was launched on occasion of the company's 30th anniversary in 2017 and provides a platform which bridges the gap between people who would like to help with those in need. Driven by Aster DM Foundation, through various initiatives, the programme has been able to impact 2+ million lives across geographies. Aster Volunteers have been able to treat 290,986 individuals through mobile medical camps; 169,207 people have benefitted from basic life support trainings and 36,019 free surgeries as well as health investigations were conducted; supported with the recruitment of 114 differently abled people and treated 533,146 people through medical camps. The aid programme in Somali land, Jordan, Bangladesh and Kerala has benefitted 288,158 people; while 21,302 children have benefitted under Child Health & Wellness initiatives. Aster Volunteers have also undertaken 142 initiatives towards Sustainability & Community Connect. These initiatives have impacted more than 2,210,258 lives.
Aster Volunteers have also been at the forefront of the battle against COVID – 19, with 46402 people having benefitted from mobile medical camps and 450,384+ from awareness webinars. More than 318,490 people have benefitted through distribution of food and ration kits and 15,486 have received PPE kits. The team has also reached out to the community by distributing 2,200 gift boxes during the holy month of Ramadan and has worked towards answering of 16,697 distress calls during the global lockdown. Through these COVID initiatives the team has impacted 850, 415 lives.
