New 500,000 square feet facility to add new services and 240 new patient beds
18 July 2010 (Dubai, UAE): The American Hospital Dubai has begun the roll-out of its new In-patient Bed Tower, with the opening of the first of the facilities to be located there. The newly designed and refurbished Total Joint Replacement Regional Center of Excellence is the first unit to be relocated to the fifth floor of the new building, with 44 in-patient rooms, and medical/surgical units and supporting areas. A new 20-bed maternity unit (labor and delivery) will open shortly, with its eight delivery suites, two c-section rooms, 10-bed neonatal ICU (intensive care unit) and a well-baby nursery. The new facility will be fully occupied and operational before the end of 2010.
The new In-patient Bed Tower will add 240 new patient beds (all private rooms and 30 per cent larger than the original Hospital patient rooms) to the existing campus, as well as a range of new services. The facility has a total of seven floors with a two-level underground car park (263 spaces), covering a built up area of almost half a million square feet (50,000 square meters). The In-patient Bed Tower is the latest in a series of developments being undertaken by the Hospital at the Dubai campus and follows the opening of a new outpatient clinic building, which resulted in a doubling of the medical staff at the Hospital.
Mr. Thomas J. Murray, FACHE, Chief Executive Officer, at the American Hospital Dubai, comments: "The new In-patient Bed Tower is a highly significant development for the Hospital, as well as for the healthcare sector in Dubai. It is a world class facility and adds not only scale to our operations on campus but also extends our ability to offer high quality secondary and tertiary healthcare services to the community and patients across the region. As a JCI accredited Hospital, the American Hospital Dubai meets the highest standards of the US healthcare sector and this new facility is part of our master plan for the campus, designed to meet the future clinical needs of the city and to deliver the best clinical experience and a safe environment for patients, with the same high standards."
The new In-patient Bed Tower is located at the Southeast corner of the campus and interconnects with the rest of the Hospital for easy access. In addition to the new tower, several other Hospital renovation projects are ongoing including seven new Emergency Department Treatment Exam Rooms which will constitute a new 'Urgent Care Service'. The Hospital will roll out further new services at the In-patient Bed Tower through the year and expects the bed tower to be fully occupied and operational by December 2010.
