Dubai, March 7, 2005: Dubai Islamic Insurance and Reinsurance Company (AMAN) today revealed it plans to extend cover under it's Takaful Passport policy to Haj and Umrah pilgrims from anywhere in the region and even countries as far afield as Malaysia and Australia. The Shariah-compliant policy offers compensation for as much as RS50,000 against accidental death or injury during Haj and Umrah.
The new initiative, aimed at meeting the seasonal surge in demand for such services, was announced during the Haj and Umrah Exhibition (UMRAH 2005) taking place from March 6 to 9 at the Dubai World Trade Centre, Hall No.8. Ayman Al Ajmi, AMAN's Executive Manager for Business Development and Marketing, said: "This reflects how quickly this particular policy has become a mainstay for pilgrims and the general perception of the relevance and worth of AMAN's unique insurance services."
During a series of earlier meetings, Haj and Umrah campaign organisers from the region, Malaysia, and Australia, confirmed their interest in cooperating with AMAN to apply the Haj/Umrah Takaful Passport policy. Mr. Ajmi said: "The extension of the cover was a direct response to those meetings and has been in line with our commitment to provide Sharia'a-compliant Takaful insurance to customers wherever they might be, whether it is in the region or in other countries.
"As part of its expansion plan, AMAN will consolidate its leading position in the region as the Islamic insurer of choice for Sharia'a-compliant Takaful insurance. We will develop our services in Saudi Arabia and Qatar over the course of the next few years, and turn our attention to Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait, among others."
AMAN's services are currently available in Oman and will be further rolled out in phases. Its Takaful insurance has been certified by its Board of Fatwah and Shariah. The policy covers accidents anywhere in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and first class private hospitals have been contracted by AMAN to provide medical services in Jeddah, The Holy City of Mecca and Medina.
AMAN first launched the policy during the most recent Ramadan.
