AirOwater – a game-changer product from India that produces drinking water from air is launched in Dubai . Air-to-Water Atmospheric Water Generators (AWG) vending machines that produce water from humidity in the air, are currently available in UAE for a low price and can easily replace water dispensers at home, office, hotels and shopping malls. This innovation can drastically reduce dependence on plastic bottles while at the same time contribute in fighting the global water crisis.

News Highlights

  • AirOwater launches innovative AWG Atmospheric Water Generators that produces pure and clean drinking water from air in Dubai with the objective of reducing usage of plastic bottles
  • For every 100,000 one-litre plastic bottles a consumer eliminates, he saves 5,844 kilogrammes of plastic waste, 17,532 kilogrammes of Carbon Emissions, 104 barrels of oil and 300,000 litres used in the manufacturing process!
  • Investment in water and sanitation projects in the MENA region is expected to reach $133.2 billion, of which $19.1 billion have already been spent in 2019 and $30.8 billion in 2020;
  • Water vapour, in the air is an untapped resource that can be used to produce water.

A patented technology, AirOwater launched its Atmospheric Water Generators (AWG) machines at the India Innovation Hub, Indian Pavilion at Dubai Expo 2020 – the largest exposition in the world that is being held for the first time in the Middle East and Africa.

Visitors at Indian Pavilion@ Expo 2020 are queuing up in front of the AirOwater machines to not only taste the water but also to understand about the technology and how is water produced out of thin air. In the last few days since the AirOWater exhibited, we have served free water to a large number of visitors and had happy faces by quenching their thirst in this high humidity.

Thanks to Expo 2020, Indian Consulate and FICCI for supporting, and specifically Honourable Dr Aman Puri, Consul General of India, whose brainchild “Innovation Hub” bus, is providing opportunity to 100s of innovators from India to showcase their innovations. AirOwater comes to the UAE just at the right time as the UAE Government announced its target to become carbon neutral by 2050.

Innovation bus, being regularly visited by Indian Ambassador to UAE, H.E. Pavan Kapoor and Consul General of India Dr Aman Puri along with dignitaries and officials and delegation from across the world, has proven to be the right platform and provide a global visibility for start-ups to launch their signature products into the global markets.

AirOwater is one of the best examples of cost-effective, energy-efficient, environment-friendly, sustainable and innovative products coming out of India, that is contributing in a humble way towards Global sustainability.

Mr. Rahul Mathur, CEO International Operations at AirOwater, said, he is humbled by the response he got from 1000s of visitors, young and old to Indian Pavilion and by seeing happy faces after serving them free water during the exhibition and the entire experience has been very satisfying.

He said “No purpose is bigger than serving the humanity and what better than providing basic need of Water to all”.

It is also aligned to AirOwater’s objective which is “W2W” or “Water to World” and providing a world class Made in India product.

He said “Having lived in UAE, which is home away from home, for almost 20 years, is the best place to launch and showcase globally a world class product. The ultimate objective is to give back to the society through a sustainable business model and provide water through its high-efficient, cost-effective AWG machines low-cost water and to take this to some of the most challenging parts of the world, where water is scarce.”

Palak Shah, AirOWater International Sales head and from manufacturing side in Mumbai, said, “We have spent lots of resources to perfect the technology and have achieved a price point per litre of water, down from high price per litre when we started production initially in 2011. The water produced through the machine is pure, enriched through Ozonation process with oxidents and healthy minerals – which is 3000 times better than using chlorine in the water.”

How does it work?

AirOwater is a humidity and temperature driven machine, which creates water from humidity the air, using a proprietary process. These machines serve two purposes: creating water and filtering outside air simultaneously, making it the unique energy efficient water generator.

AirOwater utilises the moisture content in the air to create the purest form of drinking water through a patented 4-step filtration process. The machine’s optimum performance ideally requires a 60-70% humidity level.  Airowater is designed to produce sufficient amounts of water in harsh humid conditions. It also performs well in an air-conditioned environment, acting as an effective dehumidifier.

Air is purified using a 4-step filtration process that   includes an anti-static air filter, a water-dust filter, a pre-carbon filter, a sediment filter, ozone filter, a UF membrane and TCR filter.

Once the water is retrieved from the environment via the air and micro dust form filter, it is passed through an advanced water filter to remove bad odours, physical impurities and colour. Once that is done, a TCR filter, made of activated carbon filter made by mixing coconut shell with silver paste, designed to kill bacteria, remove odours from purified water to enhancing the taste of the final product, setting it apart from the water produced by other water filters available in the market!

Barring the electricity cost and the price of the machine, the water is freely produced. Indian manufacturer of AirOwater has been doing research and development and producing water from air since 2011 and has installed several in India in several places.

“One of the most important aspect is that there is no use of plastic in the process. The whole machine is built with metal and the water container is pure stainless steel. So, the water remains pure with all the healthy ingredients. We have capacity ranging from 25-1000 ltrs per day. The 25-litre machine is good for home and small office use, with no maintenance cost, except for the replacement of filters and consumables once a year that are supported by the manufacturers.”

The launch of AirOwater using condensation process along with lot of other companies producing through similar process takes place at the time as the world grapples with water scarcity that has reached a critical level with increased demand for clean water due to growing population.
