Dubai, UAE, June 1, 2010: Deira City Centre in cooperation with Dubai Health Authority and the World Heart Federation is putting its weight behind heart health with the Go Red for Women campaign - an awareness drive designed to educate women on the threat of cardiovascular disease.

Each year over 8.6 million women globally die of heart disease and stroke - more than the total number of women who die from all cancers, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS and malaria combined. And yet, most heart diseases and strokes are preventable.

Go Red for Women is an international awareness campaign dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis and control of cardiovascular diseases in women.  As part of the world-wide initiatives, Deira City Centre has joined the campaign to improve women's knowledge of the risk of heart disease and stroke in this country.

The mall has developed a partnership with Dubai Health Authority and the World Heart Federation and has launched the Go Red for Women campaign at Deira City Centre this week and will be hosting a free testing facility whereby all women shoppers at the mall can undergo free BMI, blood pressure and cholesterol testing, including nutrition consultations on June 4th and 5th at the mall's Centre Stage.  Numerous other activities are planned to be held throughout the year to continue the awareness drive.

Fuad Al Najjar, Vice President of Deira City Centre said, "The Go Red for Women campaign began in America in 2004 and Deira City Centre is proud to be involved in such an important and socially-relevant initiative.  We hope that the activities at Deira City Centre will help women understand more about this serious health issue."
