Following its resounding success in 2010, inJAz Bahrain launched its "Job Shadow" program for the academic year 2011/2012 in partnership with 8 leading companies from Bahrain's industrial, services, and financial sectors. This year, 390 students from 15 government secondary schools benefited from the program during the fall semester.

The "Job Shadow" program aims to provide students with real-life opportunities to learn more about the fundamental business concepts - such as revenues, costs, competitiveness, and market fundamentals - that will help shape their future careers. This was done through a variety of in-classroom learning activities and a one-day field visits to specific companies.

During these visits, the host volunteers talked to students about their career experiences and allowed them to shadow them and their colleagues in their various roles. In addition, the students were able to have open discussions with the employees from which they had to prepare reports on what they learnt. At the end, a series of activities were organized to encourage the students on implementing what they learnt and develop a personal plan of action to achieve their future academic and career goals.

Expressing her views about the positive impact of the program, Sh. Hessa bint Khalifa Al Khalifa, Executive Director of inJAz Bahrain said, "The feedback from our students on the program has been truly remarkable as it addresses their desire to observe how employees perform their tasks in real-life context.  The credit goes to the support and encouragement we have received from numerous partners, volunteers and the Ministry of Education over the years. We remain ever grateful to them for their unwavering loyalty and benevolence".

"We hope that the Job Shadow Program will keep on helping more students understand how the skills learnt in school are implemented in the workplace".

The 8 companies who took part in the program during this semester were BBK, Bapco, Alba, GPIC, KFH, Batelco, Citibank and Gulf Air.
