United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) launched the Egypt’s Human Development Report (HDR) 2021 in cooperation with the Ministry of Planning and Development. The ceremony was attended by Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi, in the New Administrative Capital.
HDR 2021 reflects the comprehensive development efforts undertaken by the state, which “extend to all aspects of life in Egypt,” presidential spokesperson Bassam Rady said.
The ceremony is also being attended by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala El-Said.
Egypt’s Human Development Report 2021 highlights the country’s human development between 2011 and 2020.
UNDP Resident in Egypt Randa Abu El-Hassan said that this is the 12th Egypt HDR to be issued since 1994.
Moreover, she explained that the report reaffirms Egypt’s commitment to a development approach that puts human beings at its heart.
She indicated that Egypt is one of the few countries that managed to achieve economic growth in 2020 amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Meanwhile, UNDP’s Achim Steiner explained that the report shows that Egypt has made huge strides in key areas such as health, education and housing.
He added that Egypt raised the average life expectancy from 70.3 years in 2010 to 72 in 2019.
Steiner indicated that Egypt is tackling climate and environment crises, adding that the UNDP is proud to support these crucial efforts, including through the new strategy on climate change.
