TUNIS -The Associative Network for Nature and Development in Tunisia and the Eco-constitution Group, a group of ecologists militating for integrating environment and ecology related laws in the new constitution, called Monday for saving environment in Tunisia which, they said, is today subjected to multiple threats.

Actually, over two thousand hectares of Tunisian forests were set ablaze or cleared over the last months. National parks, such as Ichkeul, Bouhedma and Châambi - home to endangered species of wild fauna and flora- came under attack, while waste is proliferating in residential areas.

Both sides underline, in a communiqué, that "facing such a situation of ongoing degradation," the concerned public authorities and bodies remain" passive and incapable" of putting a halt to atrocities against nature.

" Environmental authorities are called upon to shoulder their responsibility in this regard," the communiqué reads, notably through infringement control, communication and raising awareness about the seriousness of the situation.
