AMMAN — The majority of Jordanians view the epidemiological situation in the Kingdom as “under control”, according to a public opinion poll conducted by the Centre for Strategic Studies (CSS) at the University of Jordan.
The poll, which was conducted by the Department of Public Opinion Polls and Surveys from September 6 to 12 and based on a representative sample of Jordanian society from all governorates, was part of the “Jordanian Street Pulse” poll series, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The poll, which followed the government’s decision on the resumption of in-class education in 2021/2022 scholastic year, contains an assessment of the epidemiological situation, as well as the government’s anti-coronavirus measures amid the reopening of all sectors.
The poll shows that 78 per cent of the population view the epidemiological situation as “under control”, while 49 per cent expressed concern that the virus might continue to spread during the upcoming three months and infect a large number of people.
Sixty-two per cent of the surveyed expressed satisfaction with the government’s COVID preventative measures, with 63 per cent viewing that the current government has succeeded in its handling of the coronavirus pandemic.
According to the poll, 72 per cent of those surveyed, who are Jordanians above 18 years, have been vaccinated.
About 39 per cent of those who were not vaccinated said that they will receive their shots, while 42 per cent said they will not and 16 per cent indicated that they have not decided yet.
The poll results showed that 49 per cent of people willing to get vaccinated prefer the Pfizer vaccine, while 22 per cent favour the Chinese vaccine, Sinopharm. However, 20 per cent had no preference for any of the approved vaccines.
On resumption of in-person learning, 88 per cent agreed with the Ministry of Education’s decision.
