Dubai: Building work on a new residential and business development in Ajman has been launched by Shaikh Ammar Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman.

Shaikh Ammar laid a symbolic foundation stone to signify the launch of Al Ameera Village, a Dh1.2 billion development set for completion in 2007.

The town-sized project is being developed by real estate company Tameer Holding and will feature a mall, several sports centres, mosques, parks and other recreational and shopping facilities

Situated on the Emirates ring road, and a short distance from Dubai, the project will also consist of 50 traditionally designed residential buildings, hotel apartments and commercial areas.

Omar Ayesh, president of Tameer Holding, said: "We have designed the Al Ameera village to reflect the culture and heritage of this great emirate while ensuring that it has all of the facilities expected for any large futuristic city.

Although commonly known for developing lone buildings designed for both residential and for business purposes, Tameer is adding complete towns and cities to its list of projects.

Apart from the Ajman-based development, Tameer is also responsible for the Emirates Industrial Area, based in the emirate of Umm Al Quwain, that features a variety of buildings designed for commercial and business use.

Also in Umm Al Quwain is the vast Al Salam City, a development expected to hold approximately half a million residents, being constructed at a cost of Dh30 billion.

"We are in the business of building cities and redesigning landscapes," added Ayesh. "Al Ameera Village is the first and just one of many town and city-sized developments that will redefine what a traditional Middle Eastern city is to be like. We are living in exciting times and are at the threshold of a new Gulf."

Formed through a strategic partnership between Al Rajhi Investment Group and Tameer Property Establishment, Tameer Holding boasts an investment portfolio totalling Dh40 billion.
