BEIRUT (Zawya Dow Jones)--Work on eight stalled road construction projects in Saudi Arabia's eastern region has resumed and the projects are expected to be completed this year, Saudi-based Al Riyadh daily reports Thursday citing a Saudi ministry of transport official.

The ministry has also approved eight new road projects in this region at a combined cost of 815 million Saudi riyals ($217.3 million) under the current year's budget, the paper reports citing Mohamed Al Suwaiket, the transport ministry's assistant for technical affairs and general supervisor of the roads and transport general directorate in the eastern region.

There are 40 projects underway in the eastern region with a combined value of more than SAR6 billion, he said according to the daily.
