The Ice Surprises week is set to begin this evening, with the opening ceremony transforming one of the halls of the Dubai World Trade Centre into a winter wonderland.
Organised by the Dubai Water and Electricity Authority (Dewa), the fifth week of the Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) will offer visitors the opportunity to walk into an atmosphere of snowfall, eskimos, ice statues and snow flakes that will coat the ground.
Dewa has also organised a series of programmes, which will run until the end of DSS on September 2, with the venue of Ice City continuing for another five weeks. In addition to an Ice Castle, the Ice Surprises week also offers visitors the opportunity to visit an ice olympic arena, an eskimo village and experience snow fishing and the splashy and sparky club as well as the hovercraft ride.
In all, the Ice Surprises week will have 34 programmes and activities covering education, culture, sports and entertainment shows as well as competitions, which will simultaneously run in different shopping malls.
The Ice Surprises week will also host international shows that are being presented for the first time in the region, including the Arabian Ice City, Shatoor Tents, a plastic ice show, a snow man show, an ice maze, a snow magician show and a snow arts and crafts workshop.
Sponsored by Dewa for the second time, the Arabian Ice City opens its doors this evening, with tickets priced at Dh5 for kids and Dh10 for adults.
Charity associations, summer camps and association for general benefit will receive a 50 per cent discount and people with special needs will be allowed to enter for free as an initiative to encourage them to participate in DSS events.
The Arabian Ice City, which runs from three to ten in the evening, hosts a number of zones, with the temperature of the Ice Castle and the Ice Olympics Arena set at -5?Celsius.
Children can also participate in educational competitions with prizes to be won at the Splashy and Sparky Club.
