BEIRUT: More than 10 muggings and a series of violent crimes or theft in various regions of Lebanon topped Thursdays police reports.
A man was admitted to the Hilal hospital in Chtaura after being stabbed in his back and left thigh in the village of Kfar Zabad in the Bekaa Valley.
The National News Agency reported that a 26-year-old Syrian man, Fayez Ahmad Hkaiti, was stabbed by Ahmad Youssef Shokor after the two men engaged in a verbal dispute and was transported to the hospital in critical condition. The ISF has launched a manhunt for Shokor, who fled the crime scene and remains at large.
In the village of Kayfoun in Aley, Kamal Ahmad, 35, was found hanged in his home and an investigation was launched right after the body was found.
The previous 24 hours saw five Syrians, five Lebanese and two Egyptians fall victims to separate incidents of muggings, the NNA reported.
The first incident occurred in Mansourieh, Metn, as two Syrians were mugged and robbed of a total of $500. Another Syrian man was the victim of a mugging and was robbed of $50 in the Beirut neighborhood of Ashrafieh. A fourth mugging targeting Syrians was reported in Bir Hassan, where a man was robbed of $100, while a similar incident took place in Sin al-Fil when a man was robbed of LL400,000.
In the Tripoli neighborhood of Mina, a man was mugged and robbed of LL250,000.
Two similar incidents took place in Beirut. The first occurred in Souk al-Ahad, where police said the victim lost LL280,000 and his mobile phone, while another man was robbed of $1,800 in Ard Jalloul near Tariq al-Jadideh.
In the Koura village of Ras Masqa, a man was mugged and had his mobile phone and LL70,000 stolen.
Also, two Egyptians were mugged and robbed of LL45,000 and their mobile phones in Dora, police said.
Various incidents of burglary were also reported.
In the Beirut suburb of Furn al-Shubbak thieves broke into the home of Therese Sfeir Omari and stole jewelry worth $6,000. A Bengali house maid reportedly stole LL12 million in cash from her employees home in the Beirut neighborhood of Haret Hreik. In Tripoli, thieves burglarized the home of Nader al-Sharif in the Abi Samra, stealing $8,000 in cash and jewelry worth $2,500.
In Baalbek, thieves broke into a shop owned by Ali Noun and stole voice recording equipment worth LL20 million. A separate robbery occurred when thieves stole $15,000 in cash and jewelry from the home of George Mikhael in the village of Kfar Aqqa. The Kesrouan region was not spared, as thieves illegally entered an office supply store in Ajaltoun stealing stationary and prepaid Internet and mobile telephone cards worth $20,000.
Also, the Akkar village of Deir Janin saw its municipal building fall victim to vandals, who also stole its generator. Mayor Suheil Saad said that he informed the police of the robbery, adding that investigations are under way to uncover the perpetrators. Deir Janin has witnessed a wave of thefts recently, as 10 houses have been robbed in the village.
Police arrested two Palestinians, a Lebanese and a Syrian man in Downtown Beirut and Ain al-Mreisseh for drug possession Thursday.
