Iran is to become top producer of urea fertilizer across Mideast within two years through doubling its production capacity, said deputy minister of oil.

Currently, the capacity for annual production of 4.5 million tons of urea fertilizer has been prepared, he added.

"Close to 7.5-8 million tons would be added to urea fertilizer production capacity by the end of Fifth Five-Year Economic Development Plan (2015)."

Also, permits have been issued for private investors to launch new units and raise urea fertilizer capacity to 14 million tons, he added.

He called ongoing projects in Golestan, Hengan, Assalouyeh, Farashband, Masjed Soleiman as the major urea fertilizer projects.
