Sharjah: Universal Steel held on to their nerve to beat Yogi Group in a semifinal match during the first Al Dhaid Premier League Tournament, organised by the Sharjah Cricket Council, at Al Dhaid Village.
The match, which had all the ingredients of a thriller, ended a tie, but Universal Steel were declared winners by virtue of their losing lesser number of wickets.
Universal Steel, batting first, did well to score 208 for nine in the allotted 25 overs, with Shibith contributing a solid 56 in the company of Naveem (27). Salman Faris, Shiva and Naeemuddin took two wickets each for Yogi Group.
Yogi Group, in reply, had their moments to overhaul the score, but they tended to fumble at the finishing line.
Salman Faris led the Yogi Group batting charge with a blazing 72 while Azhar made an equally entertaining 45, but Universal Steel managed to scramble home.
Universal Steel owed their success to Ajit and Jayaprakash, who both took three wickets each, while Naveem returned with a two-wicket haul.
In another match, Khatri CC comfortably kept up their dominance over Al Manal Development, winning the one-side match by 85 runs. Khatri, batting first, scored 185 for seven with Umer remaining unbeaten on 57.
Al Manal Development, in reply, were shot out for 100 in 20 overs with Ayub taking three wickets for just 16 runs. Saleem and Adnan who both snared two wickets each completed the rout.
