SINGAPORE (Dow Jones)--Singapore's port authority Monday said a container ship has run aground in waters south of the city-state.
At about 9:58 p.m. local time (1358 GMT) Sunday, the Qatar-registered Al Rawdah "ran aground on the reefs of Batu Berhanti in Indonesia while transiting the Singapore Strait from west to east," the Maritime and Port Authority said in an emailed statement. It didn't state the condition of the ship, or report any casualties.
The vessel belongs to Kuwait-based United Arab Shipping Co. (UASG.CI), according to a senior official in the shipping line, who didn't want to be named.
"We are still assessing the full situation. We are waiting for the master report to come. The Rawdah is our ship and she has some problems there in this area, but we don't know the full scenario so far," the official said.
According to UASC's website, Al Rawdah has a deadweight tonnage of 85,250 tons and can carry 6,921 twenty-foot equivalent units.
