Sulaimaniya - The spokesman for the Kurdistan Region's Investors said the UK government is planning to issue two-year visas for the Kurdistan businessmen adding the British government also seeks to open a branch of its banks in the Region as well as introducing assurance and consultancy companies.

The British Ambassador to Iraq, John Jenkins, leading a delegation arrived in Sulaimaniya city, 346 km northeast of Baghdad, Saturday and met with a number of the contractors and investors in the city, spotlighting the economic and industrial situation in the city.    

Yasin Mahmoud cited the ambassador saying the British government is seeking to issue long term or at least two-year visa to the Kurdistan businessmen. The UK also hopes to open a branch of its banks in Sulaimaniya and bring some consultancy and an assurance British company into the city.

There are branches of the Turkish banks as well as some of the Arab countries in Kurdistan- but no branches of the European banks.

The ambassador, as Mahmoud said has promised to hold in March in Sulaimaniya a conference for the foreign companies working in the Kurdish province.  

There are 24 British companies in Kurdistan- with 22 in Erbil, the Kurdistan Region's capital and only two in Sulaimaniya.  

Some 18 countries have consulate in the Kurdistan Region. The representations are conducive for the foreign companies' influx into the Region. Over 11,000 foreign companies work in the Region, 60% of which are Turkish.
