Budget carrier Flydubai will launch flights to Grozny starting next week, becoming the first UAE-based airline to operate direct trips to the capital of previously war-torn republic of Chechnya.
The flights from Dubai International will operate twice weekly starting from December 17, 2020, the airline announced on Wednesday.
The new service will offer flyers access to Dubai and other holiday destinations across Flydubai’s network.
The airline, which has been gradually resuming international flights since July, said it remains committed to offer new services in various destinations, including the ones that were previously underserved.
“As we continue to see more countries lifting restrictions on international travel and expect the demand for travel to increase during the winter holiday season, we are pleased to announce the start of flights to Grozny,” said Ghaith Al Ghaith, chief executive officer at Flydubai.
“Russia has always been an important market for Flydubai. With the new direct route between Dubai and Grozny, we continue to support the flow of travel, trade and tourism from previously underserved markets,” added Jeyhun Efendi, senior vice president for commercial operations and e-commerce at Flydubai.
Last year, Russia and the UAE signed several agreements to develop further strategic partnerships in vital sectors, including trade and investment, sustainability and environment.
The UAE has been credited for the role it has played in helping boost the economy of Chechnya.
In 2017, the Khalifa Fund for Enterprise Development established Zayed Fund for Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Chechnya.
