Dubai: Tri-Dubai athletes once again courted top honors at the end of the Ford Ironman 70.3 Championship held in Clearwater, Florida, earlier this week.
Just three weeks after dominating in the Ironman World Championship, Tri-Dubai's Craig Alexander came up with a strong finish with a time of 3 hours, 45.37 minutes, to finish nearly two minutes ahead of teammate Simon Lessing from Great Britain. Tri-Dubai's Chris Legh from Australia narrowly missed the podium after he finished in fourth with a time of 3:49.42. Richie Cunningham denied the Tri-Dubai outfit a clean sweep as he completed the gruelling race in a time of 3:49.17.
"This is yet another tremendous day for Tri-Dubai," noted Director Sportif Tony DeBoom.
"The Tri-Dubai concept and model has really forced change into the sport of triathlon. There are several teams forming now as a result of our highly publicised team's success this year."
"Not only did we win the two largest world championships in triathlon, but we completely dominated the Ironman and 70.3 circuits all year through," he added.
Tri-Dubai is a triathlon super team consisting of 10 co-ed triathletes from across the globe. Managed by Boulder, Colorado-based The Human Interest Group, Inc (HIG), Tri-Dubai works to promote Dubai as a sports, business and tourist destination while also supporting charities around the world under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
In the women's competition, Tri-Dubai's Lisa Bentley from Canada waged a huge battle with Samantha McGlone before settling for second place.
