MUSCAT -- Tiwi's prospects for attracting tourists and promoting a healthy lifestyle for its inhabitants brightened recently, with an agreement by Oman LNG to construct a lengthy walk-way with sit-out facilities for the sea-side village. Planned to be located close to the village's creek, the walk-way will measure some 550 metres in length, 10 metres in width, and be fitted with shade-giving tents and benches to encourage outdoor relaxation, sight-seeing and the performance of some simple exercises.
Already, Tiwi village is one of Wilayat Sur's popular spots of interest, frequented by locals and visitors, who regularly go to unwind by its wadi. Oman LNG operates a three-train, 10.4 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) production facility at Sur and executes a deliberate engagement policy with its surrounding communities to specifically support their development.
"The construction of this walk-way project in Niyabat Tiwi is vital for its many social benefits. It also has a huge potential to draw out local residents and tourists to a particular spot for the purpose of relaxation, socialisation and the performance of simple exercises such as walking and jogging," said Shaikh Mohsin bin Hamad al Maskari, Deputy Wali of Sur, in Tiwi, about the agreement which is in partnership with the Sur Municipal Committee.
"For Tiwi village, Oman LNG's walk-way project will promote the location's tourism potential, healthy living and safety for all either who live there or pay a visit to enjoy the scenery and the renowned hospitality of the Omani people," said Ali al Hashar, Oman LNG's Chief External Relations Officer, after the agreements were signed in Sur. Shaikh Ali bin Ahmed al Shamsi, Wali of Sur and Chairman of Sur Municipal Committee, and Ali bin Saleh al Hashar, signed the agreement.
