Minister of Higher Education Hani Murtada has opened Arts and Sciences Private Unversity Branch of the European University" in Aleppo. The opening ceremony was attended By Dr. Hamed Arhem Habo, The Baath Arab Socialist Party`s secretary of Aleppo university, Dr. Mohammed Sayeed Farhoos, the rector of Aleppo University, Hamed Audi, The Governer of Aleppo , Dr. Abed Al- Raoulf al- Kasem, The rector of private University for Science and Arts and Dr Fared Jwala, the cheif of university council.
At the opening,Mr Murtada the Minister of Higher Education stressed in his speech that university teaching and scientific research receive particular care and attention from President Bashar al- Assad who encourages the establishment of private universities to work along side other of the universities with the aim of raising the scientific standard in the country.
Syria Times shed light on the opening ceremony and had the opportunity to meet Dr. Fared Jawal, the chief of European university council, who said: This university is a distinguished project and a successful step for Syria, we got special approval from the late President Hafez al- Assad to establish this great scientific project and to establish a branch of the European University in Damascus. The late President granted land for building the university as a present to this great project, and this university will carry his name. Later President Bashar al- Assad pushed forward our enterprise and gave us buildings in the centre of Aleppo university after the decree for establishing private universities was issued, Dr. Jawal stressed.

A number of agreements between Italy and the European University in Syria were signed, such as the agreement between the European University and Pologne and Ferari Universities in addition to the Arts academy in Rome.
These are leading universities in Italy an the world. Dr Fareed Jwalal said.
Regarding to the teachers in the European University in Syrian Jwala said all the teachers in the University will be professors, experts and researchers and they are known for their scientific expertise.
They are Italian, French, and Swiss and, they will teach the curriculum which is taught in their countries and this will give positive results in Syria. . In addition students who were sent to studyabroad the High Education Ministry will study at the European University in Syria, Dr. Jwala added. There is a centre of scientific research attached to the European University called the Faculty of archaeology. We hope to establish different faculties in the European University and adopt new ways for teaching by concentrating on the student who will be able to travel to all branches of the european University to study and gain expertise
Syrian will be the centre of the European University in the Middle East; recalling history when Rome was the centre of the west and Damascus was the centre of the east on Scientific level. There were many agreements to establish branches of the European University in Egypt, Tunisia, Jordan. Arab Culf and Lebanon.
Dr. Fared Jwala talked to Syria Times about the strong cooperation between European University and the Ministry of the Higher Education. There was a positive attitude by the Aleppo University to provide facilities to establish a branch of the European University in Aleppo University. We held a meeting with the Syrian Virtual University and we put forward plans to establish cooperation to rehabilitate the student in the first year when they will study languages, administration and information technology.
The Virtual University will start its cooperation with us this year. Dr. Jwala said.
We hope to participate in the process of development and modernization on different levels of science and technology. We work to retrain teachers in our country to use their scientific expertise. Finally,we sinceraly thank President Bashar al- Assad for his constant support of this project Mr Fared Jwalal concluded.
