DAMASCUS - A meeting was held on Saturday at building of the Baath Arab Socialist Party's Regional Leadership chaired by Assistant Regional Secretary Mohammed Said Bkhitan and the presence of members of the regional leadership, secretaries of the BASP branches and governors .

The meeting discussed the latest political developments and economic situations as well as developments on all levels.

Bkhitan stressed the importance to closely follow up the society issues and situations of interest to the citizens and to strengthen role of the party in order to contribute in expansion of the circle of awareness and to work among citizens' ranks to fortify the internal front and upgrade the feeling of responsibility.

Vice President Farouk al-Shara, during the meeting, reviewed the political developments on the Arab, regional and international arenas and the role of Syria in defending the supreme national interests of the nation and pushing towards strengthening the Arab solidarity.

Shara noted to the visit of President Bashar al-Assad to Turkey and its results on the strategic level.

He indicated that one of the most important results of this visit is the reaffirmation of Syria and Turkey on the unity of the Iraqi soil and the opposition to any proposal for division of Iraq or any part of it under any pretext.

Shara  noted to development of the Syrian-Turkish relations that serves interests of the two neighboring countries and enhances directions of cooperation and peace in the region against tendencies of hegemony,  war, aggression and occupation, which seek to subjugate the region.

The Vice President underscored the importance of economic and commercial dimensions of the outcome of the visit and its positive implications on ties and cooperation between the two friendly peoples and countries.

He touched upon developments of the situation in Iraq, Lebanon  and  Palestine, stressing  Syria stance in support of reconciliation in Lebanon, the  national reconciliation in Iraq and the national unity among the Palestinians.

Mr. Shara underlined the need to work for the restoration of the Arab solidarity,  pointing out to the importance of the Arab summit to be held in Damascus next March as a summit of the Arab solidarity...''This solidarity which is necessitated by the current conditions that the nation is passing through.''

Premier Mohammed Naji Otri, for his part, talked on developments of the process of development in Syria, pointing to the good results of total indications on top of which is the Gross Domestic Product GDP that is expected to record a rise at the end of this year compared to the last year.

The meeting hailed steadfastness of Syria in the face of pressures  and its permanent adherence to the Nation rights and interests,  pointing out to the sacrifices made by Syria and its people as a  price to their stances.
