Damascus, (SANA) - Syria and Iran on Thursday signed the executive program for the 2009 memo of understanding in planning field to implement the fourth item of the memo.
The program provides for forming a planning committee that includes Syrian and Iranian officials. The committee's task is to prepare a schedule of procedures and funding mechanisms required to implement joint research and projects in planning and statistics fields.
The committee is also responsible for organizing training courses, symposiums, conferences and meetings to enhance bilateral cooperation, particularly in economy such as relative advantages and priorities of investment and regional and national cooperation.
Other tasks include controlling exchange of information, statistics, documents and laws in addition to coordinating the exchange of specialized bulletins in planning and statistics.
The program also provides for exchanging visits between planning officials within a period of six months from the date of signature in addition to holding regular meetings to review what has been implemented.
Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Abdullah al-Dardari and Iranian Vice President for Strategic Planning and Supervision Ebrahim Azizi signed the executive program.
In a press statement, al-Dardari said the agreement constitutes an advanced step towards consolidating the Syrian-Iranian relations and enhancing cooperation in social and economic development in both countries.
Azizi, for his part, said that the signing comes in the framework of the efforts of the two countries' leaderships to upgrade bilateral relations to higher levels, noting that the program will link the five-year plan of both countries to achieve positive results on the level of future planning in Syria and Iran.
