ABU DHABI, 4 Jan, 06 (WAM) - SteelFab, the Middle East's largestdisplay of steel working machinery, to be held at Expo CentreSharjah next month, will showcase a wide range of blasting equipmentthat are fully compliant with the Dubai Municipality Code ofPractice on Abrasive Blasting.
SteelFab 2006 will definitely benefit Dubai-based steel workingcompanies that are engaged in abrasive blasting and are strivingto be compliant with this code of practice The Dubai Municipalityhad in 1991 prepared and adopted the Code under Local Order 61of 1991 to control air quality and occupational health issuesassociated with abrasive blasting. The Code was amended in March1996, according to a press release.
Besides controlling air quality, the Code seeks to reduce theproblem of disposal from abrasive blasting media, which is asignificant component of Dubai's solid waste stream. All companiesand individuals conducting abrasive blasting operations are requiredto comply with the Code of Practice.
Among the areas that are covered by the Code of Practice arecontrols on use of abrasives, safety of workers, water disposal,and necessary documentation.
The prime hazard in abrasive blasting is dust, in particularsilica dust. Prolonged inhalation of crystalline silica dustcan lead to silicosis.SteelFab 2006, to be held from January 22-24, 2006, will featuremore than 150 reputed brands from across the global steel workingindustry. It will showcase the complete range of Steel, Fasteners,Accessories, Surface Preparation, Machinery and Tools, Weldingand Cutting, Finishing and Testing equipment, and Coatings andAnti-Corrosion material.
The event is being organised by Expo Centre Sharjah with thesupport of Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI).
