Geneva -- The Speaker of Saudi Majlis Al Shura, Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al-Sheikh has reiterated the importance of the participation of Majlis Al Shura in the 3rd World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, now in progress in Geneva.
In a press statement, he said the Kingdom under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah Ibn Abdul-Aziz has been playing a great and influential role at the Arab and international arenas.
'This conference is different from the previous conferences due to the nature of topics which are on the agenda including turning the international parliamentary union (IPU) into a governmental organization,' he said.
'This issues requires more time for discussion because each state has its own view in this respect,' he added.
Dr Al-Sheikh said the meeting held by speakers of the legislative councils in the member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council as well as the meeting of the speakers of parliaments in the Arab countries before the convening of the 3rd World Conference were primarily aimed at promoting coordination in their stands.
He noted that the Saudi Majlis Al-Shura has presented a paper in which it called for canceling article 33 included in the draft of the final communique because the issue is still under study by the parliaments.
Meanwhile, He received earlier today Speaker of the peoples' council in Syria Dr Mahmoud Al-Abrash.
They reviewed topics on the agenda of the conference as well as aspects of cooperation between the Saudi Majlis Al-Shura and the Syrian peoples' council.
He also met with chairman of the council of advisors in Morocco Mohammed Sheikh Biyadallah.
They reviewed issues on the agenda of the conference as well as bilateral relations.
