SOHAR -- Sohar University signed an agreement with a British company on the prospects for co-operation between the two institutions in various scientific fields, as well as exchanging relevant views and ideas and supporting their missions and visions. The agreement also provides for co-operation in scientific research, availing jobs and useful development projects that would support the vision of Oman 2020, in addition to protecting the environment in the Sultanate. Dr Abood bin Hamad al Sawafi, Vice-Chancellor of Sohar University signed the agreement on behalf of the University in the presence by officials from both sides. Sohar University aspires to be internationally recognised as a University of excellence through quality teaching, scientific research and contributing increasingly to add value to the economy, society and culture of the Sultanate of Oman.
It also aims to develop the skills and knowledge through the preparation of graduates, who are ready to engage in the labour market and able to contribute to the development. Meanwhile, Sohar University received a guest from James Madison University in the United States.
Prof Stephen Hill, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Sohar University, welcomed Prof Karim Al Tai, the director of international programmes for Arabic Education. The purpose of Al Tai's visit to Sohar University was to establish cooperation between both universities in the field of exchange programmes. Dr Al Tai met with Dr Awni Al Fa'ouri, Assistant Dean of the faculty of Arts and Law, and the director of Sohar University Language Centre.
James Madison University hopes to enroll American students in Sohar University Arabic courses which are conducted by the University's language centre. Dr Al Tai met a number of teachers of the language centre, and visited classes to observe the quality of teaching at the university. In addition, Dr Tai met Dr Abdul Qadir Tami, Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Engineering to discuss the future co-operation with the James Madison University in the field of Technology. Sohar University hopes to enroll students with diverse background to enhance the students experience at the university.
