ABU DHABI, 18th Oct. 2009 (WAM) - Six authors from the United Arab Emirates have released their latest translated works at the Frankfurt Book Fair, a move that aims to promote Emirati literature in Germany and internationally.
The literary works were published by Qalam, a project launched last year by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH) to support UAE creative writers at the international stage. The six works are: "Mariam and Good Fortune" by Mariam Al Saaedi; "Coffee of Angels" by Mariam Nasser; "A Widow's Luscious Face" by Fatima Al Mazrouei; "Light Goes to Sleep" by Ibtisam Al Mua'lla; "Resurrection Bus" by Rawdha Al Baloushi; and "The Mirror" by Mona Abdel Qader Al Ali. The publications were translated by top German translators who have long experience in the translation of cannon Arabic books into the German language. Since its launch, Qalam has published 16 UAE literary works, including drama, short stories and poetry that were presented in different languages to appeal to international audiences. Qalam announced that it will launch a new set of works at the next session of Abu Dhabi International Book Fair. Qalam will also soon be launching a writing workshop that seeks to discover talented novice UAE authors.Copyright Emirates News Agency (WAM) 2009.
