MUSCAT -- A small fire broke out at the Muscat branch of BankMuscat on Saturday mid-morning. The fire was the result of a short circuit and normal services are expected to resume over the next seven days.
Speaking on the occasion, Said Al Badai, chairman of the bank's Business Continuity Planning (BCP) committee said: "This is to confirm that there was a small fire at our Muscat branch premises as a result of a short circuit yesterday. While some of the furniture in the branch will have to be replaced, there was no damage to any of the records of the bank. To avoid inconvenience to our customers, Muscat branch operations will temporarily be conducted out of our Jibroo branch, till it is fully operational. We expect normal services to resume within a week or so." The fire was detected once the fire alarm in the branch went off alerting the central monitoring service of the security and safety services organisation to which all BankMuscat's branches are remotely connected. The fire soon contained thereafter by the fire services personnel and members of the Royal Oman Police who arrived at the scene.
Thanking the emergency services for their prompt action, Al Badai added: "We would like to sincerely thank the Royal Oman Police and the Fire Services personnel for their prompt action in coming to our branch and in containing the fire thereafter with minimal damage to the property and its neighbourhood. We would also like to confirm that no one was hurt or injured in the fire."
