KUWAIT, Jan 31 (KUNA) -- Chairperson of the organizing committee for women's sports of the GCC Sheikha Naeema Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on Thursday reaffirmed that Kuwait has completed its preparations to host the first GCC sport tournament for women.

His remarks to reporters came after heading the supreme organizing committee of the tournament, which was attended by GCC Assistant Secretary General for Humanitarian and Environment Affairs Dr. Abdullah Al-Hashem and female representatives from Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Oman.

The meeting agreed the participation of people with special needs in the field and track games of the tournament taking place on March 5-11, 2008, Sheikha Naeema said, adding that the contest will also witness holding a number of side events such as the first sports' book fair and the Olympic day for women.

She noted that the torch lighting ceremony will kick off from Dar Salwa to al-Qadesia Sporting club, in an 11-kilometer journey.

Asked about women's sports in Kuwait, Sheikha Naeema said that two new clubs would be established in the near future.
