Foum Zguid, Morocco, 21 Dec. 2009 (WAM) - The new Sheikh Zayed Mosque in the Moroccan oasis city of Foum Zguid was opened today. The project to build the mosque was financed by the Zayed Foundation for Charitable & Humanitarian Works (ZFCHW), under the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and General H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
The opening was attended by Salem Obaid Al Dhaheri, Director of the ZFCHW, the Director of Endowments Affairs in Morocco, and other of Moroccan officials. Al Dhaheri said the mosque is built on a large area, accommodating 3,500 worshippers. The two storey mosque has a main hall, as well as hall for women. Other associated facilities include accommodations for the Imam and Muadhin, a library equipped with computers and internet services, a reading hall and a large yard for Eid prayers. Meanwhile, a delegation from the ZFCHW has discussed with the UAE Ambassador to Morocco Hamad Al Jari Al Kutbi, plans for a number of projects to be implemented in Morocco under directives of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The projects' total cost is estimated at USD 2.5 million.Copyright Emirates News Agency (WAM) 2009.
