Head of Iranian Space Agency (ISA) Hamid Fazeli said a satellite built by Sharif University of Technology's students will be launched by Safir B-1 satellite carrier.

He made the remark on Monday in an interview with IRNA, adding that the Sharif University Satellite has a high image resolution of 12.5 meters.

Fazeli said the equipment installed in this satellite have high precision imaging capabilities in optical range.
"Given its superior features and advantages, the Sharif University Satellite is in the list of satellites planned to be launched this year."

Sharif University Satellite is a micro-class satellite whose mission will be imaging the earth. It weighs 50 kilograms and measures 40 by 40 by 40cm.

The project to design and build it began in 2008 based on an agreement signed between the ISA and Sharif University of Technology.

Over 100 students, graduates and professors of the university have contributed to designing and building the satellite.

A team of professional experts in fields such as optics and imaging, thermal engineering, communications, dynamics, flight computers, ground stations, etc are working on the project.

ISA head further said the Kavoshgar 4 Rocket and the domestically-built Fajr (Dawn) Satellite will also be launched into space in the current Iranian year (started March 20).

Should the Simorgh Satellite Carrier be readied by the Aerospace Organization, the Zafar and Tolou satellites will also be put on the list for launching this year, he further added.

Fajr satellite will reportedly be placed in elliptical orbit of 400 km in radius, and will remain in space for a year and a half.
