MUSCAT -- The Royal Navy of Oman vessel Shabab Oman sailed for France yesterday to take part in a maritime festival in the city of Rouane. The sail ship will also participate in other similar European events.
A farewell ceremony for the vessel at Said bin Sultan Naval Base was attended by Rear Admiral Abdullah bin Khamis al Raisi, Commander of the Royal Navy of Oman, and Marc Barety, the French Ambassador to the Sultanate. The French ambassador and invitees went on board and were briefed on the route of the voyage. Folk troupes performed on the occasion.
The event was attended by senior Sultan's Armed Forces officers and walis. The ambassador said the visit to France by Shabab Oman reflected the depth of the historical ties between Oman and France. The co-operation between the two countries is excellent in all fields, particularly maritime affairs, he added.
