Abu Dhabi: A group of quadruplets have been born to very happy Jordanian parents at the Al Rahba Hospital after a successful delivery marking the second set of their kind to be born in the facility since its establishment.

After nine long months of pregnancy, the mother successfully gave birth to Shamsa, Shaikha, Aisha and Fatima, a healthy set of girls.

The delivery took place 10 days ago by caesarean, but the mother only left the hospital around the 28 of last month.

“Although the delivery went very well, it was a very tough pregnancy for my wife. Towards the end of the last months she was barely able to move. Since we decided not to inform a lot of people of what we were expecting for fear of envy from some, it was a great surprise for many of our friends,” the 32 year-old now father of five, Abdul Aziz Awwadh told Gulf News.

“I am elated, honestly. Even now we cannot believe that it has finally come true, and that the babies are at our home finally. It is a feeling beyond description,” he added.

The couple’s oldest daughter, Shamma, who is now six years-old has yet to adapt to the presence of her new sisters. “She is afraid to touch them because they are so small. It is too early to tell which parent they look like because of their small size,” Al Awwad who works at the office of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region.

The proud father revealed that he decided to name two of the girls Fatima and Shamsa after Shaikha Shamsa Bint Hamdan and Her Highness Shaikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union and Chairwoman of the Supreme Council of Motherhood and Childhood.

“Shaikha Fatima has done a lot for parents with twins of two and more, and the Shaikh Hamdan office has taken care of all my medical expenses. I really do want to thank them both and I am eternally grateful for this great country and its leadership,” he added.

Awwadh also stated that he is planning on moving to a bigger house with his new family and to make further preparations for the responsibilities lying ahead. “I need not one, but two nannies and a larger house. Two rooms is not sufficient anymore,” he said highlighting how tiring the past few days have been for him and his wife.

“One pair of the twins is constantly sleeping and waking up at the same time. It is an exhausting job but I am very proud,” he added.
