MUSCAT -- The seeds of the thought of 'Ethics at Workplace' are aptly sown in the young and experienced minds at the two-day Conference on 'Work Ethics to Improve Performance and Productivity" held under the auspices of Dr Abdulmunim Mansour al Hasani, Minister of Information, and Chairman of Board of Directors of Oman Establishment for Press, Publication and Advertising (OEPPA), which was wrapped up at the Intercontinental Hotel yesterday.
It is the thought that transforms into action and only the future will unfold the substantial change that the conference could induce in the corporate scenario of the Sultanate of Oman, as is transpired from the event that was attended by both local and international experts of high rank and file.
On the second day of the conference, His Highness Sayyid Faisal bin Turki al Said, Director-General, Marketing and Media, PAIPED (Public Authority for Investment Promotion and Export Development), urged both the public and private companies to emphasise more on the ethical aspect of workplace in his keynote address. While the first session of the day's activities shed light on the 'Impacts of Work Ethics in Development of Organisations' with a special focus on professional proficiency and work ethics in attracting investments and the legal aspects of ethics at workplace, the second and third sessions witnessed brainstorming sessions on practical professional aspects of work ethics and implementation of work ethics by renowned speakers flown in from other countries.
Chaired by Dr Mohammed Mubarak al Araimi, Head of Oman Society for Authors and Writers, a number of renowned speakers and HR experts lined up yesterday's three sessions as the hall was packed to capacity on both days.
More than anything else, students from various colleges including the SQU and the International College of Engineering and Management told the organisers that they were able to make the maximum out of the conference in terms of highly insightful sessions.
Qalhat LNG sponsored a number of students who actively participated in the conference and went back contented with lessons for a lifetime.

Farida Salim Ali al Kindi
This is my first time to attend a conference of this sort and I'm sure this is just a beginning and I'd love to attend similar conferences and seminars of this sort. This conference is really a milestone in my educational and professional paths alike. What attracted me the most is the idea of great companies and scholars share knowledge with the participants.
Robin Steiner, PHD candidate, SQU
I'm a research student at the SQU and I'm representing the University of Arizona. The confenrce is an eye-opener to the ethical issues that are prevalent across the globe and it also helps us find solutions to the same at various point of times.

"The two-day conference has succeeded in its attempt to shed more light on the ethical behaviour to improve performance and productivity and to effectively manage change inside the organisation".
Moatasim al Balushi, Corporate Communications, OPAL
Workshops and conferences of this sort is the need of the hour as this could shed more light on the ethics at work factor and how it can contribute to the success of the growth.
Mirfath al Araimiya, Studies and Research Centre (SRC)
While searching for a suitable and contemporary topic for the conference we conducted a random survey and majority agreed upon the 'Ethics at Workspace' as it is the one of the topics of global demand and that is the very reason we chose this particular topic. The SRC organises at least two important conferences every year and this year this is the first time after the last year's successful conference.
"We need to advocate and create awareness the importance of work ethics at all levels of the society and not just to our workplaces alone.
In every event of the SRC we try to encourage the new generation to think and help build their skills and principles and values in their lives.
We'll listen to the participants as well as to the company representatives and will decide upon the topics that are important to the modern world and you can expect the same in the next conference orgnsed by the SRC.
I'm so happy that the conference has succeeded in bringing about the desired results to the society as well as to the companies in the Sultanate of Oman.
