Ground has been prepared for extending facilities to the private sector investors who are willing to produce sea fish in the country.
Director general of Iran Fishery Organization for shrimp and sea aquatics, Omid Reza Asqari, told IRNA on Tuesday that coordination has been made with banks in this regard.
The official also said that efforts are being made to provide insurance coverage for the fish farmers through the Fund for Supporting the Agricultural Products.
He added that the aquatic reserves of the country are not adequate to meet the livelihood requirements of fishers, and that special attention should be paid to sea fish farming.
Iran has no sea fish production industry which is considered the development axis of many countries, he said, adding that implementation of cage aquaculture projects has many economic advantages for the country.
Asqari put the annual sea fish production capacity of the country at 1 million tons.
Referring to the economic advantages of fishery industry, he explained that development of the industry will help generate jobs and earn hard currency revenue for the country.
Asqari went on to say that presently cage fish farming is developed in the northern and southern seas of the country.
He hoped that full capacity of the fishery industry will be used to make the country self sufficient in this respect.
