Doha - The Qatari Heritage Village will today feature a performance by the renowned Saudi Arabian music troupe, Eastern Coast and a local group, Al Wakrah, who will present a wide array of traditional dances and folk songs with music from Qatar and other GCC states, a senior official at the National Council for Culture, Arts and Heritage, said here yesterday.

Over the weekend, visitors to the Qatari Heritage Village would be able to watch the shows from 5pm to 10pm. The Saudi Arabian troupe, he said, consists of some 40 performers who will showcase a variety of skills and folk dances, among others.

The Qatari Heritage Village, established at the City Center Doha by the NCCAH is an integral part of this year's Qatar Summer Wonders festival.

Officials revealed that visitors and residents of Qatar who have not yet tasted local cuisine can savour traditional local dishes such as Machboos, Harees and Haleem, among others at the Qatari Heritage Village. All dishes served at the village are nominally priced and cost QR5 and upwards.

Next weekend, the Qatari Heritage Village will feature two major attractions - the Henna Night on Thursday. He explained that the Henna Night is conducted before a wedding and the bride's palms and feet are painted with intricate designs made with a paste of henna leaves. This will be followed on Friday by a Qatari wedding at the village where visitors will get a glimpse into how marriages in the local community were performed in ancient times, with traditional dances.
