Riyadh-based AES Arabia has won a $150 million contract in the ongoing construction activities of Bahrain International Circuit (BIC), the official host of International Formula One event in April 2004.
The General Manager of AES Arabia Ltd, Fawaz Malki stated that the company was presently carrying out the construction of a water desalination plant for BIC with total capacity of 1000 cubic metres per day. Malki said that work on the project started one month back with a targeted handing over date of early February 2004. “The award of this contract to AES reflects the high quality standard maintained by the Saudi water treatment companies. This has also confirmed the vital role these companies play in the region which has started attracting many international activities,” he said.
“This project comes as on addition to many other water treatment projects already completed by AES in Bahrain such as a 2000 cubic metres per day desalination plant for Aluminum Bahrain (Alba). AES Arabia is also preparing to start work on a desalination plant for Bahrain Hilton Hotel with a capacity of 400 cubic metres per day.
“The execution works at Bahrain International Racing Circuit project started recently with a total cost amounting to $150 million. The project includes five arenas: 2.55 km inner arena, 3. 666km exterior arena, the grand prize arena with 5.411km length, one oval arena for trial activities with 2.5km length and a 1.2km arena.
