BEIRUT (Zawya Dow Jones)--Saudi Finance Minister Ibrahim Al Assaf has signed two contracts with three construction companies for work on the North-South railway project at a total cost of 1.82 billion Saudi riyals ($477.31 million), the Riyadh-based business daily al-Iqtisadiya reported Tuesday.

The contractors are Abdullah Abdulmohsen Al Khodari Sons, a partnership of Al Fahed Trading & Contracting Co. and Al Omir Company for Trading & Contracting, the newspaper said.

Under the three-year contracts, the companies will execute ground leveling and earth moving works of 259 million cubic meters on a 280 kilometer section of the North-South railway track in the An-Nafud desert, the newspaper quoted the finance ministry as saying.
