Technip-Coflexip has been awarded a contract to upgrade five gas cracking furnaces by the Saudi Petrochemical Company (Sadaf).

The French engineering firm said the contract called for the modernisation of the furnaces at Sadaf's ethylene plant in Jubail.

Sadaf is a 50:50 joint venture between industrial giant Sabic (Saudi Basic Industries Corpora-tion) and oil major Royal Dutch/Shell.

Technip-Coflexip will supply its proprietary furnace technology as well as supply equipment and supervise construction and start-up work. The services will be executed and managed from Technip's offices in The Hague and in Saudi Arabia.

The company has also won a second contract with China Petroleum Material & Equipment Corporation to modernize nine cracking furnaces in Daqing City.

A statement from Technip said both contracts demonstrate the application of its knowhow to upgrade cracking furnaces at ethylene plants.
