The Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs, Prince Miteb Bin Abdul Aziz has signed a new contract with Dallah Est. for Contracting, Operation and Maintenance (P. O. Box 430 Jeddah 21411, Tel. 471 0000) for cleaning work in Makkah and the Holy Sites, at a cost of SR 670,963,223. The contract is for a period of five years.
The contract includes provision of the following services within the aministrative jurisdiction of Makkah
* Cleaning of streets, grounds and open land in Makkah.
* Picking up of scattered garbage, automatic sweeping as well as hand sweeping work in main and branch streets.
* Washing of pavements, open spaces, cleaning of tunnels and parking lots.
* Cleaning of markets and public shopping malls.
* Cleaning of hilly areas.
* Clearing of the contents of garbage containers and transporting the contents, as well as cleaning and washing of containers.
* Picking up and transport of 100,000 cubic meters of debris annually.
* Clearing rain and flood waters and any leakage of water.
* Cleaning of graveyards.
* Eradication of pests and insects and clearing the same from within the administrative jurisdiction of Makkah
* Cleaning and eradication of pests from municipal jurisdiction of Al Jamoum and Al Shoaiba and other villages under Makkah.
The new contract is different from the old one due to increased number of workforce and equipment. In the present contract, the contractor will have 15338 personnel and more than 1684 pieces of equipment. This is because the area is now wider for the contractor to look after and enhanced services have to be offered due to increase in the numbers of Haj pilgrims and Umrah visitors.
The contract includes conducting a cleanliness awareness program for the public, including citizens, visitors and Haj pilgrims, inviting them to cooperate with the cleanliness drive and impressing upon them their responsibility in this regard.
The contractor will install, operate and maintain all the equipment and fix their position by using satellite positioning system and prepare digital maps showing the routes to be taken by each piece of equipment, other machinery and the garbage containers.
The contractor will prepare and maintain the dumping site south of Mesfalah, as well as operate and maintain the methane gas collection network and disposal of the same at the dump in Al Moaisem.
