JEDDAH - Sheikh Saleh Abdullah Kamel has been chosen unanimously by the 18 appointed and elected members as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI).

Meanwhile, Mazen Batterjee retained his position as vice chairman. Ziyad Al-Bassam was chosen to take the place of Dr. Lama Al-Sulaiman and Dr. Abdullah Marei Bin Mahfooz was elected as representative of the Council of Saudi Chambers.

During the first meeting held on Thursday noon all refused to be nominated for chairmanship of the Board in appreciation of Sheikh Saleh Kamel and in recognition of his ability to lead the oldest Gulf chamber. They preferred to work under his leadership so as to continue the accomplishments made during the past four years.

Mazen Batterjee was chosen as a representative for industrialists and Ziyad Al-Bassam as a representative for traders.

The new Board re-elected Adnan Hussein Mandourah as Secretary General. Kamel called on the Saudi chambers to implement JCCI's initiative to carry out elections within the Board every two years to choose the chairman and two vice chairmen.

In a press conference he held following the meeting, Kamel said he was honored on being re-elected by his colleagues in the Board, but added an caveat that elections be carried out every two years. He said each of the 18 members has a dossier and functions to carry out during the four years. Kamel said they formed a committee that would begin its work from Thursday.
