DOW JONES NEWSWIRES

Royal Jordanian Airlines's chief executive, Hussein Dabbas, says a merger with a larger carrier is inevitable as high fuel prices, competition and the sluggish economy squeeze earnings, Bloomberg News reported on its website Tuesday.

The carrier, part of the Oneworld alliance, views consolidation as "a must," Dabbas told Bloomberg in an interview. "We are looking and reviewing options and talking to airlines to see when the time is right for us to do something." The report added that the company has no concrete plans on any merger or consolidation.
