BAGHDAD - Two projects to set up a road and a school in al-Suwaira district in northern Wassit province have been carried out at a cost of over 2 billion Iraqi dinars ($1.685 million).

"Today, two projects were completed. The first is the establishment of a second passage for Juwaimaysa Road and the second is a typical school in al-Suwaira district (135 km north of Kut City)," the governor's assistant for technical affairs, Sabeeh Lafta, told Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI).

"The school comprises two stories, 12 classes, a whole section for the administration and lectures, a drawing hall," Lafta noted.

Lafta added that the school was set up on an area of 1,800 squared meters at a cost of 964 million Iraqi dinars.

"The completion period of the school project was 300 days," he added.

Wassit, 180 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, is in the east of the country. Its name comes from the Arabic word meaning "middle," as it lies along the Tigris about midway between Baghdad and Basra.

Its major cities include the capital, al-Kut, and al-Hayy. Prior to 1976 it was known as Kut Province.
