BEIRUT: The Press Federation and the Journalists’ Union announced Sunday the death of journalist Younis al-Eben who had worked as editor-in-chief, managing editor and sub-editor in several Lebanese newspapers. He was in his late 80s. Until his death, Eben worked at Dar al-Sayyad, which publishes the Al-Anwar daily, the weekly As-Sayyed magazine and other publications. The deceased was a poet, an author of poems in Arabic and French and a distinguished painter. His poems were performed by prominent Lebanese artists and singers, including Sabah and Wadih al-Safi. Eben’s artistic works were used by Lebanon’s radio station as well as by performers on the Lebanese theater, including the Baalbek Temples theater. Prayers for Eben’s soul will be held at Saint Elias Church in his hometown of Homeis-Mizyara on Tuesday at 3 p.m. Condolences will be accepted before burial and after burial Wednesday at the church’s hall and at Sacre Coeur Church in Badaro Friday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Eben is survived by a wife and several children.
