Damascus - The regional workshop, held in cooperation between the Syrian General Establishment for Telecommunications and the Arab Regional Office at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), started activities in Damascus on Monday.

Director of the Establishment Nazem Bahsas said that the participants will be discussing issues of developing the use of the applications of the communication and information technology in the rural and remote areas through the complete access system, radio telecommunication systems and network planning and design.

Senior Advisor for Arab States in the ITU Arab Regional Office, Nefertiti Ali pointed out that the Syrian General Establishment for Telecommunications has signed a memo of understanding with the ITU to activate the rural telecommunication program.

16 experts from Syria, Arab countries and the ITU will take part in the activities of the 3 day workshop, including delegations from Tunisia, Jordan, Palestine, Oman, Djibouti, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon and Egypt.
