BEIRUT: The Rafik Hariri University Hospital will pay the salaries of its employees Wednesday, the hospital’s chairman and CEO Wassim Wazzan told The Daily Star Tuesday. He said the hospital’s payroll distribution had been delayed for a few days each month recently due to bureaucratic delays in transferring funds from the Health Ministry, which pays salaries. Wazzan’s remarks came after a statement provided to newspapers alleged the hospital was forcing employees to borrow their monthly salaries from BankMed and BLOM Bank. Wazzan said the hospital had decided to cooperate with these banks to provide employees with the option of getting paid at the beginning of each month without any delay, while a monthly interest of LL1000 would be settled by the hospital itself. Wazzan said that 80 percent of the hospital’s employees approved this solution. – The Daily Star
