DOHA: Qtel has offered vacationing customers to enjoy care-free data roaming when they travel this summer.
With the new Summer Roaming Data Promotion, Shahry customers can get the same rate of QR10 for 1MB when they use their mobile to access the Internet in over 75 countries on more than 220 preferred networks. This single flat-rate, which applies until September 30, offers considerable savings over standard data roaming costs.
Qtel, however, reminded all roaming customers using Blackberry devices, iPhones, other Smartphones and Tablets to make sure they switch off the data services in their device settings to avoid inadvertently consuming (and paying for) data they don't want to use when travelling. Some applications - such as Facebook or BlackBerry Messenger - can use data even if the user is not aware of it.
The special data rate applies across the GCC, in the UK, USA, Australia, Canada, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Pakistan, Switzerland, Singapore, Yemen and a host of other popular destinations.
All Shahry customers who connect to the preferred networks will automatically benefit from the special roaming data rate. Upon arrival, they will receive a special SMS letting them know which network to connect to in order to enjoy stress-free roaming.
Qtel has launched a variety of special roaming promotions in 2011, to ensure that Qtel customers enjoy more choice and great value when they travel for a summer vacation.
Until July 31, Shahry Value Pack customers can use the local minutes within their packs either for local calls in Qatar or for incoming roaming minutes while travelling for no additional cost.
Qtel reminded Hala customers that when they top-up with QR100 or more, they will benefit from 100 free incoming roaming minutes to use anywhere in the world until the end of July.
One of Qtel's most popular services for travellers in the GCC is the "SmartRoamer" service, which enables all Shahry customers to call home and all GCC countries for just QR2 and call within the country for just QR1 per minute.
Qtel also offers the Shahry Passport, which offers incredible roaming voice rates in the most-visited European destinations and the USA.
